It had been a day since Henry’s dog died. Mr. Barkington had been his best friend in the world, he had helped him get through so much, he had gotten the dog just a little bit after the tragic accident that had killed both of his parents but now he was dead. It all happened so fast, one day he was snuggling happily with Henry, watching Star Wars, and the next, he passed away in his sleep. Henry was devastated, Mr, Barkington was all he had, he couldn't die, not now, not right before his 17th birthday. Wait, what was that? Henry went to his door to find his dog happy to see him. At first, Henry was confused, his dog was supposed to be dead, he had buried Mr. Barkington with his own hands, yet here the dog was. Licking his face and barking happily. Henry was confused at first, but then, he was happy, “it must have all been a bad dream,” he thought, “My dog is alive!” He let the dog in and fed him and let him go back outside. For the next couple of months, Henry's life continued as it had for the past 17 years, waking up with the dog next to him in bed, letting him out, and going to work, then he would get home and spend the rest of the day watching movies with Mr. Barkington. One day, on his way back to work, Henry's neighbor, Kathryn, stopped him, “Hey, I’ve been seeing a strange man running around your yard every day for the past couple of days, I just wanted to let you know.” “That's concerning," Henry replied, "if you see him again, do you mind calling the police?” Kathryn said yes, and Henry left for work. When he got home, he found a note on his door from Kathryn saying that the strange man had shown up again, and she had called 911. The cops showed up and took the man away. Henry was relieved to hear this; he didn’t like the idea of a stranger on his property. He went to call Mr. Barkington in for dinner but got no response. He never saw that dog again.
